Ragdolls

“Ragdolls” is a mixed media triptych about my experiences as a disabled and chronically ill wee guy. Oftentimes in my life it’s like my brain, body, or both don’t work right. My legs stop holding me up, my joins feel rusted, or my brain might explode from the overwhelm of life. I created Ragdolls to share with others who might find comfort in knowing their experience is shared. It also allows me space to process my own feelings around my disabilities.

Ragdoll #1 is the first piece in the triptych and the idea that sparked the series. It shows my grief caused by my chronic illness and my cardinal need to dance.

Ragdoll #2 explores my struggles with chronic joint pain. Sewing, painting, crafting; it all causes or is hindered by the pain in my arms.

Ragdoll #3 is about being autistic. I wanted to proudly show off the things that I have kept hidden for years. I should not be made to feel ashamed for the things that help me cope in a world that was not built for me.
